As the name says, a spider nevus is a red “spider” which is clearly visible on the face and sometimes on the body. In the center it is visible a red, round core from which small blood vessels fan out. A spider nevus is caused by a local dilation of a small capillary.
How does a spider naevus develop?
A spider naevus arise spontaneously, in some cases they can pull away but usually it remains. A spider nevus can develop from a young age. In young children you often see these on the cheeks, they can also be present on the entire face.
Vasculair laser treatment at Huid & Laser Utrecht
At Huid & Laser Utrecht, couperose and other vascular abnormalities are treated with the Nd-Yag 1064 nm vascular laser or a combination with the Alexandrite laser. This is the most effective treatment method. The light from the laser is absorbed by the red and purple color of the keg. The light is converted into heat and this heat ensures that the proteins in the vessel wall solidify. This damages the vessel and your body cleans up the vascular residue.
The skin is cooled with direct air cooling during the treatment. This ensures that the surrounding skin is turned off for the heat and the treatment is less sensitive.
