  • Vaginal complaints after menopause
  • Vaginal atrophy can develop as a result of menopause. This is the thinning of the vaginal wall and mucous membrane.

This can cause the following complaints:

  • Irritation and burning sensation
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Recurring infections
  • Stress incontinence
  • Cracks at the entrance to the vagina
  • Recurrent cystitis
  • Pain during sex
  • Vaginal sagging

About 40% of post-menopausal women experience symptoms of vaginal atrophy.

Vaginal atrophy occurs when the ovaries no longer produce estrogens, which reduces the collagen in the vaginal wall and makes it thinner. The vaginal wall also loses its natural elasticity and a reduced blood flow ensures less hydration, causing dryness. The environment of the vagina changes, which can cause complaints.

Vaginal complaints after breast or cervical cancer

Vaginal atrophy can also develop in women who have previously had a hormone-sensitive form of breast or cervical cancer and are not allowed to use estrogens. Young women can have early menopause if they have been treated with chemotherapy, which can cause symptoms of vaginal atrophy at an early age.

Treat stress incontinence with the Shelase vaginal laser

Stress incontinence is also known as exercise incontinence. This is a mild form of urine leakage during physical activities. It is estimated that as many as one in five women over the age of 40 suffer from this. Many women have previously had pelvic floor therapy, but not always successfully. Urinary loss is not always due to muscle relaxation, but can also be caused by skin and connective tissue relaxation. The support tissue that surrounds the muscle of the urine outlet is weakened. Shelase laser ensures that this connective tissue is tightened by stimulating collagen production. This provides reinforcement and tightening of the fabric. Complaints such as stress incontinence are resolved. This prevents unwanted urine leakage.

Rejuvenation of the labia

Loss of volume, firmness and fullness of the labia majora can occur due to a decrease in elasticity. The labia majora can become weaker and longer and have a shriveled appearance. The Shelase vaginal laser can also treat the large outer labia. The lasers stimulate the collagen fibers, causing rejuvenation of the labia. The labia become fuller and blood flow is improved.

Vaginal tightening

As we age, collagen production decreases. This can cause sagging of the vaginal area, this is also called vaginal laxity. This can also occur in younger women after childbirth. The Shelase laser improves the connective tissue and tightens the vaginal wall.

How does the Shelase vaginal laser works?

The Shelase laser can repair the vaginal wall. The Shelase is a unique laser treatment because two lasers are combined in 1 treatment, namely the fractional Erbium-Glass 1540 nm and the Co2 10,600 nm. The laser creates new collagen and elastin in the vaginal wall itself and also around the urethra and bladder. The new collagen production tightens and improves the connective tissue. The blood flow will also be improved and the vaginal mucosa renewed. The laser treatment is performed externally to rejuvenate the labia.

Is the Shelase laser painful?

The laser treatment is painless, no anesthesia is required. After the treatment you can resume your normal activities. The treatment of the labia can be sensitive. Skin numbing ointment (emla) is possible. You need three treatments.

The results of the Shelase laser

Most women notice a marked improvement after the first treatment. Literature shows that in 80-90% of women the complaints of burning, dryness, pain during sex completely or almost completely disappear. In women with mild urine leakage, 80-85% notice a decrease in complaints or the complaints have completely disappeared.
