HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound)

It is also referred to as the “gold standard” among skin lifting methods. The method of getting tightening of your skin without down time. It can be used to improve the weakening, but also the sagging skin. HIFU is short for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound. During the treatment, the skin is tightened by ultrasound. The HIFU is combined with the Erbium-Glass laser (1540nm) and is very suitable for the face, neck and décolleté.

How does HIFU work?

During the treatment, intensive ultrasound energy pulses are delivered into the deeper skin layers. The pulses that are delivered consist of sound vibrations that affect all three different types, including the deeper layers of skin, while the top layer of skin remains intact. The high-frequency sound vibrations produce energy, which are converted into heat in the skin. This heat creates cavities in the skin that are filled with new skin tissue, which refines wrinkles and tightens and lifts the skin. The heat stimulates the natural process of the skin to produce new collagen. Because multiple attachments are used during one treatment, it is possible to treat up to the deeper skin layer, so that the desired effect is achieved.

How does de Erbium-Glass work?

A fractional laser reacts to the water in the skin cells and creates many tiny holes of heat beams deep in the skin through evaporation. This stimulates the new production of collagen (building block of the skin). This collagen production ensures more firmness of the skin. The heat from the laser causes tissue shrinkage, which will make the skin have a finer texture and improve blood flow. This gives the skin a more even color and a fresher appearance. Due to the increased collagen production, the skin aging process of the skin is slowed down.

The skin consists of several layers, the epidermis (epidermis), the dermis (dermis), the deeper skin layer and the fibromuscular layer, this is also called the SMAS layer. HIFU works on all these layers. The SMAS (Superficial Musculo-aponeurotic System = fibromuscular layer) is the layer that is normally lifted during a surgical procedure. The SMAS layer is safely heated during the HIFU treatment, so that you get a tightening of your skin in the course of 3-6 months. In addition to tightening the skin, new collagen is also produced in your skin.

What do you notice about your skin after the HIFU treatment?

Immediately after the treatment you can notice a feeling of purity on the skin and your skin shows some redness. Because the top layer of skin remains intact, you don’t have to worry about a recovery time. An optimal result is obtained after at least 2-3 treatments, depending on your skin condition. The result is visible after a few months.

Which areas can be treated?

The HIFU treatment is suitable to have your face, jawline and/or neck treated. HIFU can be used for skin slackening of the eyes, eyebrows, neck or double chin. These areas can be combined during one treatment.

The treatment can be carried out all year round. There is no recovery time after treatment and there is no need to take the sun into account.

Combination with other treatments

The HIFU treatment is combined with the Erbium-Glass laser. The HIFU stimulates tightening and lifting of the skin and the Erbium-Glass laser ensures a fine skin structure and an even color. The treatment can also be combined within a treatment plan with the Youlaser (fractional CO2 and Erbium-Glass laser) for general skin rejuvenation.
