Treatment of acne scars
After acne, deep subcutaneous inflammation can leave scars. Visible pores, a coarse skin structure and color differences such as red and brown spots (PIH) can also occur.
At Huid & Laser Utrecht, acne scars are treated with different fractional lasers. This is the most innovative method of treating acne scars. This treatment has also been proven effective by scientific research.
We often see different types of scars caused by acne. Both deep scars in the form of pits and a coarse skin structure and large pores can remain after acne. Red spots or brown pigment spots can also remain visible for a long time after inflammation. This is also known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).
Acne scars treatment with fractional lasers
We work with different fractional lasers that each work at a certain level in the skin and can also tackle the different types of scars and color differences. Thanks to this wide range of treatments, a treatment plan can be tailored. During the consultation, the skin therapist will determine which laser treatment is most suitable for you. Because often multiple types of acne scars are present, the different fractional lasers can be combined.
Operation of the fractional lasers for acne scars
The light from the laser is absorbed by water in the skin. The energy of the laser is converted into heat and provides controlled tiny holes in the skin through evaporation. These holes are replaced by the skin with new collagen and elastin fibers, this is the building block of your skin. This improves color and fades superficial scars. The scar tissue is filled from the inside with new tissue, which reduces the relief difference in the skin. The heat causes the tissue to shrink, which is visible as a fine skin texture.
We work with both ablative and non-ablative lasers. Non-ablative means that the top layer of the skin remains intact and no recovery time is required. In ablative lasers, the top layer of the skin evaporates, it requires an average recovery time of 5 days.
At Huid & Laser Utrecht can be treated with the following fractional lasers:
- Fractional Erbium-YAG laser (2950 nm) ablative
- Fractional Erbium-Glass laser (1540 nm) non-ablative
- Fractional Co2 laser (10.600 nm) ablative
- Youlaser combination Fractional Co2 and Erbium-Glass laser
Treatment with the non-fractional laser
When there are damages in the connective tissue, tissue loss can occur, causing deeper scars, such as rolling scars and ice picks scars. You will see a hole or well in the skin. The scar can then be treated locally with the non-fractional laser. This treatment is combined with a fractional laser treatment to ensure that the collagen and elastin cells are also produced.
